Hi - can you please double check if you have carried out the following:

  1. Create an account with DataDear (using the register button on the website)

  2. Make sure you have signed-up for MTD using one of the links below (depending on whether an agent is acting or not).

Business or Sole Trader - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/use-software-to-submit-your-vat-returns
Agent to submit for clients - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/agents-use-software-to-submit-vat-returns

  1. Download and install the DataDear Excel add-in. More information on how to install here

  2. Add the HMRC connection to your account from the Organisations tab within the DataDear dashboard

  3. Download the HMRC workbook from the DataDear Templates Library and follow the instructions to map the figures and submit your VAT return to HMRC.

I have upgraded to Office 2019 and I am still having issues with the DataDear add-in.
I have followed all the instructions to the letter.
The DataDear excel add-in is in the “Inactive Application Add-in file” whereas as Sage Excel Integration is the only item in the Active Application Add-ins

I have now got the DataDear add in to work on my HMRC excel spreadsheet . I can log in to Datadear from the spreadsheet. The refresh icon is still shaded out. I have entered my VAT Number and wanted to check that the link works If I refresh from add-in it hangs and I get an error message saying OLE error and excel is waiting for another item to update . I then have to close down Excel from task manager.
How can I fix this.

Hi Shelly

Thank you for confirming. When you close Excel via task manager you may get an error when re-opening Excel. Always click no to disable the add in.

In regards to the refresh icon being shaded out, make sure you are selecting the organisation from the drop-down.

In addition, make sure you have signed-up for MTD using one of the links below (depending on whether an agent is acting or not) and have also received a confirmation from HMRC that you have been signed up.

Business or Sole Trader - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/use-software-to-submit-your-vat-returns
Agent to submit for clients - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/agents-use-software-to-submit-vat-returns

Also, I suggest taking a look at our free course relating to the HMRC process with detailed information step by step.
