Connect to Xero Practice Manager

Xero have recently separated Xero Practice Manager from WorkflowMax and DataDear could only access WorkflowMax companies. This has now been addressed and can now connect your Xero Practice Manager company to DataDear.

To add your Xero Practice Manager company to DataDear, visit the Organisation tab in DataDear Dashboard and follow the on screen instructions.



Updated Xero Contacts template

The Xero Contacts template, which allows users to add and edit contacts in bulk, has been upgraded to version 1.4 and now includes the ability to add:

:white_check_mark: Default sales VAT
:white_check_mark: Default purchases VAT

This is particularly useful when uploading contacts for the first time within a Xero organisation.



Getting data faster

A number of initiatives have been undertaken to provide a better experience when using DataDear. Data is obtained directly from the accounting software meaning that the speed at which this data can be retrieved is determined by the provider of the data (Xero or QuickBooks) and the respective limits imposed by their API.

This month there has been an upgrade to the service that orchestrates and manages the data from the DataDear service. This will help with the speed and efficiency of the data requested to the external service. There will also be a noticeable improvement with the processing of data on the DataDear servers which is a task carried out by the DataDear engine before reports are pushed to the Excel workbook.



QuickBooks Online - General Ledger Report

This report has been upgraded to include:

  1. Always return the table - even if there is no data to download.

  2. Remove any empty columns - these add no value to the report and there are instances where these columns can be removed immediately without having to delete this manually.



Source ID link does not work

For these links to work, there is a one-time process where Excel needs to be run as an administrator allowing DataDear to change some settings in Excel.

The steps are:

  1. Close Excel
  2. Click on the Windows button and type Excel
  3. Right click on the Excel icon and select Run as administrator:

You may now close and reopen Excel normally and the Source ID will be working properly.



Other Improvements

  • Creating formulas in the parameters window for selecting a data (from - to) was not working properly.
  • Various bug fixes.



:construction: Upgrade details

The upgrade will start on the 17th February 7.00am UTC (18.00 AEDT / 20.00 NZDT / 09.00 CEST / 9.00 SAST / 00.00 PDT) and will take around 1 hour during which DataDear will be unavailable. The add-in will update automatically once you open Excel after the release is completed.

Since the update I am now longer able to refresh any reports from Xero. Get the warning form Microsoft - Excel is waiting for another application to complete an OLE action. Have waited for extended periods and no refresh happens. Have rebooted, run as administrator and tried on alternative computer. Not ideal when we have key deliverables today that are relaying on Datadear to function?

There was an issue after the deployment which caused delays in retrieving data. This has been resolved and all services have been restored.
