Microsoft Office 365 - How do I know if I have the correct Microsoft Excel version?

Learn how to enable the DataDear tab in Excel (Microsoft Office 365) if you have just installed DataDear on your computer and it’s not visible in Excel (Microsoft Office 365).

If you have successfully installed DataDear however the DataDear tab is not visible in Excel (Office 365), there are a few steps you can do to activate the toolbar.

Symptom

This article refers to instances where DataDear has just been installed on a computer however the add-in is not visible in Excel (Microsoft Office 365) and cannot be found under the File > Options > Add-ins section. The most common cause of this (particularly with new computers and laptops) is when Microsoft Office is installed as Microsoft Store Apps.

Step 1 - Determine if Microsoft Excel (Microsoft Office 365) is installed with the correct version.

Option 1

  1. Open Excel

  2. In the top menu, click on File > About

  3. Click on the Account tab

  4. Check the ‘About Excel’ version

  5. If you have the wording ‘Microsoft Store’ version, then DataDear will not work and you need to follow the steps indicated below under Solution.

Option 2

  1. Click on the Windows Start Menu

  2. Type ‘Excel’ in the search box

  3. Check if Excel is listed a Desktop App (App is also a good option) or as a ‘Trusted Microsoft Store’ App

  4. If you have the ‘Trusted Microsoft Store’ version, then DataDear will not work and you need to follow the steps indicated below under Solution.

Solution for Microsoft Store

  1. You need to Remove/Uninstall the current Microsoft Office from your system - You may follow the steps in the support article provided by Microsoft Office 365 to uninstall Office

  2. To install the latest version of Office, open your browser and make sure you are signed in to your Microsoft Office 365 account. You may follow the steps in the support article provided by Microsoft Office 365 to install Office

  3. Once Office has successfully installed, re-install the DataDear add-in , you may refer to this article.
